✦ Guidelines

  • While preparing for your background research presentation, you should also begin working on the first draft of your final project.
  • For the final project, please use the ACL (Association for Computational Linguistics) paper format (template provided below). This format is commonly used for NLP and computational linguistics conferences.
  • ACL submissions typically require choosing either a short paper (4 pages) or a long paper (8 pages) format.
  • For this midway report, please include:
    1. Introduction
    2. Background / Related Work
  • These sections do not need to be perfect at this stage, since you will have an opportunity to refine them later in the semester.

Length guidelines

  • If you plan to submit a short paper for the final project:
    • Your midway report should be no more than 1 page (max 1.5 pages).
  • If you plan to submit a long paper for the final project:
    • Your midway report should be no more than 2 pages.
    • This allows you to reserve the remaining pages for your experiment and results later.
  • These sections are the minimum requirement. If you would like to receive more feedback, you are welcome to include additional sections (e.g., methods or preliminary ideas). The goal of this assignment is to check your progress and provide early feedback on your project.
